Earlier this month, the NeW DC Professional Network had the opportunity to attend an event organized with the White House Office of Public Liaison.
More than 30 NeW student and professional network members attended the exclusive briefing at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on Friday, August 8. Attendees heard from Brette Powell, Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of the Office of Public Liaison; Meghan Patenaude Bauer, Director of Presidential Scheduling; Dr. Heidi Overton, Chief Policy Officer and Director for the Center for a Healthy America at the America First Policy Institute; Brittany Baldwin, Senior Policy Advisor involved with America250 at the White House; and Ashley Walukevich, Special Assistant to the President and Northeast Regional Political Director of the Office of Political Affairs.
The speakers discussed a wide range of topics, including the Trump Administration’s work to get more transparency on our food and healthcare systems, plans for the 250th anniversary celebration of our nation that renews love of American history and ignites American innovation, and the importance of finding a good partner to lean on when navigating work and home-life balance. Attendees were able to ask questions about the different policy initiatives that the Administration is working on, as well as about each speaker’s role and day-to-day functions in the White House.
The speakers were also able to share about their personal career paths, as well as their advice for young women entering the workforce today.
Mia Azizah, leader of the NeW DC Professional Network, said, “It was truly inspiring to learn from female leaders in the Administration. They showed us that we can stay true to our values, even when it’s unpopular, and reminded us to stay open to new opportunities for growth in both our personal and professional lives. I especially enjoyed hearing from Brette Powell, Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of the Office of Public Liaison.”
