Leader Spotlight: Maya Fontaine, NeW at Boston University

Meet Maya Fontaine, PR and Social Media Director of NeW at Boston University.

How did you first hear about NeW?
I heard about it through my peers at Boston University and some of my sorority sisters!

Why is having a NeW chapter on campus so important to you?
I want to engage and conduct stimulating and respectful conversations with like-minded women and continue to build a network of such amazing women. I want to be able to help give our members the confidence and voice they want in this political climate!

What has been your favorite memory or event with NeW?
My favorite memory has honestly been our meetings. I look forward to speaking and discussing with our members and e-board because it relieves my stress and gives me something to look forward to.

Why is NeW important?
NeW is important because it specifically targets conservative women, and in today’s political climate, being a woman and conservative is considered “horrific,” especially on liberal campuses. It’s important to bring NeW to campuses such as BU because it allows for inclusivity and support for those who feel to be lacking in those areas in friend groups, classes, other clubs/organizations, etc.

What advice would you give other conservative women on campus?
Don’t be afraid to go against what’s seen as mainstream. Be yourself regardless of what it might be, and I promise you there will be others who will follow in your footsteps.
