Jane Hoshell

I am a proud conservative woman for so many reasons. I am proud because my beliefs make me who I am, because I can confidently share them with others, and I can continue to grow and nurture my beliefs with like-minded people around me. I am proud to live and display the values that I hold dear to me and to show love to those who share my beliefs as well as those who do not.

The book that has influenced my beliefs the most is a book by Bob Goff called Everybody Always. This book discusses ways to minister and simply love all sorts of people with a joyful heart and even has a quote that says, “When joy is a habit, love is a reflex.” I find this to be very inspiring, especially on my campus. My school does not have a conservative basis, and it can often be a challenge to be surrounded by people who do not share my beliefs and actively work to disagree with them and shoot them down. Remembering to display love to them and be an active representation of my beliefs continues to help me everyday, so much so that my life verse is: “Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.” Colossians 4:5-6
