Senior Spotlight: Shakira Jackson, NeW at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford

Congratulations to our graduating seniors and thank you for your work with NeW! We are pleased to spotlight some of our outstanding chapter leaders and members.

Meet Shakira Jackson, President of NeW at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.

What were some of your favorite events that you participated in with NeW?
I enjoyed the NeW leadership ball because we celebrated so many free-thinking women and learned so many new facts about womanhood. I also liked NeW’s “Day of Giving” event because it was a day of service, and our organization received the opportunity to give back.

What are your plans after graduation?
Work and hopefully grad school.

What advice would you give to a conservative woman starting college?
Use your voice; it is so powerful. Never feel like you have to trap yourself in a box to fit in. We are pretty in pink and future leaders of this beautiful nation.

How has NeW impacted you and prepared you for your next steps?
NeW has given me ample opportunities to express myself, my platform and to implement social change on my campus, and that is a debt I will never be able to repay.

Why is NeW important to you?
NeW is important to me because I embody the organization’s mission and what it stands for. It is so important to be a free-thinker, and my other NeW sisters have pushed me to challenge myself so I can challenge others.
