Senior Spotlight: Meredith Lord, NeW at Cornell University

As the academic year is coming to a close, NeW wants to take some time to recognize our members who are graduating this semester to thank them for their hard work and dedication to our organization. This spotlight is highlighting Meredith Lord, President of NeW at Cornell University.

How has NeW impacted you and prepared you for your next steps?
The Network of enlightened Women has been a formative organization throughout my four years in college. NeW has developed my leadership skills, expanded my network, and shown me the importance of a strong support system. From what to wear for an interview, to advice on how to tackle difficult workplace situations, NeW has been a wonderful resource and I know I can rely on any of my peers if I need anything in the future.

What advice would you give to a conservative woman starting college?
I entered college in an election year, when political tensions were at their peak, something the high school class of 2020 will also experience. I wish I had been aware of the potential for protests and the vocal political opinions professors can have. However, I found incredible comfort from conversations with small groups of friends that had similar views. It took time to find these peers and outlets, but I assure any students entering college that they do exist. Structured organizations like the Network of enlightened Women, College Republicans, or other conservative interest groups are a great starting point. NeW was ideal for me because it is not party affiliated and fostered open discussion of current events through our chapter’s roundtable meeting style. NeW is also great for anyone who is looking to learn more about politics and some of my friends came to meetings simply to have an open conversation about politics and current events. I would also encourage conservative women to seek out a conservative support system, whether or not they have a career interest in policy. The challenges of liberal campus culture will play a part in your life whether it is a part of your course curriculum or not.

The Network of enlightened Women provides amazing opportunities for young Conservative females. Learn how to bring a Chapter of NeW to your campus here and help others learn about what NeW stands for!
