Meet Evelyn Swayze, President of NeW at Dickinson College.
What were some of your favorite events that you participated in with NeW?
1 – Speaking with the President of Dickinson College: Event with College Republicans, where the President of our school came to talk to us about conservative viewpoints.
2 – The NeW introduction event: Explaining to newcomers what our chapter is all about and introducing myself as this year’s Chapter President at the beginning of the school year.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I intend to head back home to spend time with my family and work at my family’s coffee shop along the New Jersey coastline for the summer.
What advice would you give to a conservative woman starting college?
Recognize that you may encounter resistance or disagreement from professors, classmates, or campus policies that lean more liberal. Stay resilient and approach challenges with grace and confidence, focusing on finding common ground or respectfully asserting your viewpoints– stay true to your conservative values!
How has NeW impacted you and prepared you for your next steps?
NeW has been invaluable to me because it offered a sense of camaraderie, assuring me that I was not alone in my conservative beliefs. Additionally, it has equipped me with essential leadership skills, enabling me to effectively advocate for my beliefs and contribute meaningfully to discussions on campus and in broader society.
Why is NeW important to you?
NeW provided me with a supportive platform to openly express my beliefs, which was particularly valuable in a college environment where conservative viewpoints were not always welcomed, despite the colleges’ claims of inclusivity and acceptance. Through NeW, I honed my skills in articulating and defending my conservative values, preparing me for future advocacy efforts on behalf of myself and my beliefs.
