Senior Spotlight: Erin Staley, NeW at UNC Chapel Hill

Congratulations to our graduating seniors and thank you for your work with NeW! We are pleased to spotlight some of our outstanding chapter leaders and members.

Meet Erin Staley from NeW at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In the spring, she plans to pursue a Master’s degree in accounting.

What were two of your favorite events that you participated in with NeW?
1. Spring Kickoff Pizza Party: This was such a fun event to get to know women new to campus that share my conservative views!
2. Speaker Jenna Robinson from the Martin Center: Jenna was such an informative speaker, and learning more about an issue so impending to my generation (rising cost of tuition) was a great experience.

What advice would you give to a conservative woman starting college?
If I could say anything at all, I would say stay true to who you are! It’s so easy to bend and conform to society’s standard or a professor’s standard for the sake of friends or a grade. It’s not worth it. There are people out there who are in the same boat, and sometimes they aren’t willing to say so until someone else speaks up.

How has NeW impacted you and prepared you for your next steps?
NeW really allowed me to flourish on my liberal college campus. Whenever I felt alone, I knew that there was a conservative group of women that I could turn to. All of us have had similar experiences, and it was great to know that I had somewhere to talk through those things. The leadership opportunities that I had through NeW allowed me to network and learn what I could do better as a student leader.

Why is NeW important to you?
I have made lifelong friendships through NeW that I will cherish forever! Additionally, NeW gave me leadership opportunities that I doubt I would have found elsewhere. I got to learn more about what goes into starting up a club and growing membership, which are valuable lessons that I will carry with me.

The Network of enlightened Women (NeW) provides premier opportunities for young conservative females like Erin. Learn how to bring a Chapter of NeW to your campus today!
