On Monday, March 12th, 2018, NeW at the University of Virginia hosted Campus Reform speaker Hannah Scherlacher. Joined by the Young Americans for Freedom and Students for Individual Liberty, Scherlacher spoke about campus activism, combating the liberal left’s bias on college campuses, and how to report egregious violations of campus free speech.
Scherlacher joined several students and discussed violations of free speech at UVA, including an attack by a pro-Palestine student organization on the peaceful gathering of pro-Israel students, the exclusion of Hillel from the Minority Rights Coalition, in addition to attacks on the University’s YAF chapter and its denial of their right to be a student organization. Scherlacher outlined strategies and put various audience members in touch with support resources to pursue further when similar violations occur again.
