Member Spotlight: Mary-Katherine Schlichte, NeW at Catholic University

Meet Mary-Katherine Schlichte, e-board member of NeW at the Catholic University of America.

How did you first hear about NeW?
I heard about NeW from a member of UVA’s NeW Chapter at a Collegian Eagles Conference in Washington, DC the summer before my first semester at Catholic University.

Why is having a NeW chapter on campus so important to you?
NeW provides an outlet for conservative ideas and opportunities for those who wish to take advantage of them. The speakers NeW brings in broaden knowledge on various political and economic topics, while the organization’s social meetings help students create connections and lifelong friendships. Ultimately, NeW creates a very special community on campus for young, conservative women.

What has been your favorite memory or event with NeW?
My favorite memory with NeW was when we brought in Giovanna Pence, the former Director of Women’s Engagement in the Office of Public Liaison at the White House. Since her first event with us, she has continued to reach out and let our chapter know of opportunities and provided special updates of the Trump administration’s response to COVID-19 through zoom.

Why is NeW important?
NeW is vital for a college campus environment. The opportunities and connections that stem from it are once-in-a-lifetime. It is an organization that nurtures its members’ skills of leadership, service, and proper citizenship. NeW helps give women the abilities required to be successful during and after college life.

What advice would you give other conservative women on campus?
If you are looking to widen your political knowledge, grow your leadership skills, and be part of a group of young women who will support and help you thrive, join NeW!
