Leader Spotlight: Samantha Dorning, NeW at Boston University

Meet Samantha Dorning, Secretary of NeW at Boston University.

How did you first hear about NeW?
I was invited by a friend to join NeW as a new chapter on campus after we both went through similar journeys trying to find our voice on campus.

Why is having a NeW chapter on campus so important to you?
Having NeW on campus was absolutely critical in helping me reclaim the identity I had hid and faked for so long. After years of living under the pressure of strict professors and single-minded peers, I started to reject and suppress my individual ideologies and values. NeW helped me find a group of women who appreciate my ideas and encourage me to use the voice I thought had vanished.

What has been your favorite memory or event with NeW?
My favorite memory of NeW so far was our first meeting where all our members expressed their own personal journeys about being more right-minded on campus. At the end of the meeting, everyone’s face seemed so relieved and overjoyed to finally be accepted by a group of women.

Why is NeW important?
NeW is important because it provides a platform for a wide range of women who can express an array of ideas. NeW does not force women to be in a box or pick a side. It is dedicated to learning, personal growth, and empowerment so women can be more confident in their abilities

What advice would you give other conservative women on campus?
I would advise not compromising your beliefs and values for the approval of others. You will attract real, authentic friends when you yourself are real and authentic.
