Leader Spotlight: Callista Mendoza, NeW at Grand Canyon University

Meet Callista Mendoza, President of NeW at Grand Canyon University.

How did you first hear about NeW?
Haley Supergan, NeW Campus Program Coordinator, reached out to me via Instagram over the summer to try to establish the club officially on campus. Within 24-48 hours, the application for the club was filed, and we reached well over the required 50 signatures for approval. It was all super crazy and super fast, yet such an absolute rush. I wouldn’t go back and change my mind, because I love this organization!

Why is having a NeW chapter on campus so important to you?
As a conservative female, I really yearned for a safe place on campus to talk about my viewpoints and issues as a female interested in politics.

What has been your favorite memory or event with NeW?
My favorite memory, besides the craziness of trying to get the club approved on campus, was our first event with Leah Nalepa (Whetstone). She provided so many great ideas and starting points for my style and image. I have been really struggling with my personal image and brand. Her advice and a reminder of color, texture, pattern, and shine was really impactful, and I implemented it the very next day!

Why is NeW important?
NeW truly works to educate, empower, and equip women. I love the safe place it gives conservative women to network and talk about their viewpoints!

What advice would you give other conservative women on campus?
My advice to other conservative women on campus is to be bold and vocal. Never let anyone put you down or make you feel ashamed for what you believe in. I have struggled with my political boldness in the past, and as I have learned, you are who you are. Never let anyone make you second guess your beliefs!
