Leader Spotlight: Ashley Busby, NeW at University of South Florida

Meet Ashley Busby, President of NeW at the University of South Florida.

How did you first hear about NeW?
I first heard about NeW through a member of College Republicans. They reached out and told me that a conservative women’s organization at USF was looking for someone to take over the leadership of the chapter. I knew it was a unique opportunity I couldn’t pass up!

Why is having a NeW chapter on campus so important to you?
NeW is a critical organization to have on campus, especially in our nation’s current political climate. Freedom of thought is more important than it has ever been. NeW at USF has given conservatives and independent thinkers the ability to cultivate a community of like-minded women on campus.

What has been your favorite memory or event with NeW?
I have made many great memories with NeW. One of my favorite spring memories was traveling to Orlando, Florida, for CPAC. It was awesome to meet NeW members and leaders from other chapters. I always appreciate hearing how other NeW leaders are running their chapters on and off-campus!

Why is NeW important?
NeW is unique from all other conservative organizations because its target audience is women. In my mind, I view NeW as a conservative sorority without the financial burden! It provides an opportunity for women to connect with those they otherwise wouldn’t have and reveals a very present community of conservative women on campus. In a culture where the silent majority exists, it is even greater on campus. NeW provides a voice, support, and platform for women in and out of college. I can attest to this as I have experienced it to be true as a member and chapter leader.

What advice would you give other conservative women on campus?
Conservative students on college campuses are frequently berated by progressive professors and peers. Understand that you may face opposition, but don’t let it discourage you. My advice is simple: Stand your ground, use your voice, and never bow to the mob.
