Internship Spotlight: Jordan Mercer, NeW at College of Charleston

NeW is proud to highlight the great internship opportunities NeW women are experiencing in the workplace. Meet Jordan Mercer, President of NeW at College of Charleston and intern for the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina. Learn more about her internship:

Why did you apply for this internship?
After I graduate from the College of Charleston, I want to go to law school, thus I thought interning with an attorney would give me some insight in the area I want to study.

What does your day look like in your internship?
My internship is virtual due to COVID-19, but often Mr. Guthrie will send me an overview of a potential case he has and ask me to do some research surrounding the subject. I then write several pages of notes based off my findings. The subjects of law range from divorce law, to criminal law, to real estate law, to liability law.

What has been your favorite part of the internship so far?
My favorite part of my internship this far is being able to see what kinds of law there are and what interests me most.

How does this internship help set you up for your career dreams?
This internship will not only look great on my law school applications, but it will also give me a solid background of information for when I go to law school and eventually become an attorney.

How has your experience with NeW prepared you for this role?
The Network of Enlightened Women has taught me to be professional and active in working towards my goals and I have used these skills in applying for and working in my internship.
