Chapter Spotlight: University of Arizona

NeW caught up with the women from NeW at University of Arizona. Learn about the great work these women are doing on campus from their e-board members. (Xanax)

Why is NeW important to your chapter?
NeW has helped our chapter build relationships and connections on campus. It also helps provide us with resources for a future career and develop professional skills. While giving our members a place to feel welcome, it also provides us with opportunities to focus on current events.

What kind of impact has your chapter had on campus?
Our chapter allows conservative women on campus to be comforted by the knowledge that they are not alone. We’ve been able to give access to speakers we brought to campus who are experts on certain issues. It allows for a different opinion to be brought onto campus instead of the usual messages that are promoted.

What has been your chapter’s favorite event to host and why?
Our favorite event was the pumpkin painting social we had before Halloween. It was very relaxing and allowed us to focus on having fun and not worry about the stresses of our lives. It was also a great bonding exercise with our members.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a chapter on their campus?
It can be difficult at first, but don’t let that discourage you. Recruiting is going to be one of the bigger hurdles since it can be difficult to seek out other conservatives on some campuses. There will be people who want to shoot you down, but you have to ignore them and focus on why you’re doing this in the first place. Having a solid executive board is essential to the success of the club, because they will be the ones who stay when members fluctuate.
