Chapter Spotlight: NeW at Dickinson College

NeW caught up with the women from NeW at Dickinson College. Learn about the great work these women are doing on campus from their e-board members.

Why is NeW important to your chapter?
NeW gives conservative women at Dickinson College an opportunity to talk to one another about political issues without judgement. It provides conservative women a support system we otherwise might not have on a predominately liberal campus. It allows us to promote ideological diversity both within and beyond conservative beliefs by showing us that not all conservatives think alike, and that is what is so beautiful about political views in the United States.

What kind of impact has your chapter had on campus?
NeW has given us an opportunity to redefine negative conservative stereotypes by promoting positivity, empowerment, and ideological diversity on our college campus. It has given us an opportunity to bridge the gap and encourage civil discourse. Through NeW, we have a unique opportunity to show that conservative women are intelligent, open-minded, and strong.

What has been your chapter’s favorite event/meeting to host and why?
Our favorite meeting was a cupcake decorating celebration in honor of NeW National’s 17th birthday. The women came together in a social setting to take pictures, decorate cupcakes, and celebrate conservatism. Part of what made it so fun was knowing that a group of like-minded individuals came together to embrace their conservative beliefs.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a chapter on their campus?
It’s important to remember that you should not have to hide your conservative beliefs — because beliefs that you feel like you have to hide, you probably shouldn’t have in the first place. Be proud of who you are and what you believe; and of course, respect is the key to progress. Remember that even if students give you a hard time, the best way to approach the situation is with respect because they a.) won’t be expecting it and b.) can’t have anything bad to say about you.
