This month, NeW caught up with the women from one of our newest chapters, NeW at Boston University. Learn about the great work these women are already doing on campus and what they are most looking forward to this semester from their e-board members.
Why is NeW important to your chapter?
NeW is important to our chapter because it symbolizes the start of a new way of living and thinking for each of our e-board members and chapter. It has given us a reason to be unafraid to use our voices to speak up about conservatism on Boston University’s campus and beyond. Especially for the e-board members, this club has changed our lives with the freedom and support that NeW has given us.
What kind of impact has your chapter had on campus?
Our chapter has opened up the eyes of our liberal-dominated campus that conservative women exist of all races, sexual identity, backgrounds etc., and that we are not afraid to to make a presence and show other conservative women that we’re here to represent you and support you.
What has been your chapter’s favorite event/meeting to host and why?
We are currently planning a Policy in the Park for early October! We are so excited because even while discussing which topic we’d like to talk about for the event, we got lost in a great discussion about politics on college campuses and in education. We cannot wait to see what amazing conversations are to come with this great group of like-minded and strong women.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a chapter on their campus?
It’s scary. It’s nerve-wrecking. And also the most rewarding experience you will have. We wanted a safe haven for ourselves and other conservative women on campus, and what we got was so much more meaningful than just a support system. We have gained confidence, we have gained knowledge, life-long friends, new perspectives, opinions, and so much more. Be unafraid and go for it!
