Chapter Spotlight: Georgetown University

NeW caught up with the women from NeW at Georgetown University. Learn about the great work these women are doing on campus from their e-board members.

Why is NeW important to your chapter?
Being on such a left-leaning campus, NeW provides the space for our members to be able to discuss the issues that are important to them without fear of judgement. This safe space is hard to find, but is necessary in order for our members to develop their thoughts.

What kind of impact has your chapter had on campus?
Our chapter has cultivated a strong community of conservative women on campus- an identity that previously did not have a home. This NeW community provides a home for our members to get to know and support women with similar views.

What has been your chapter’s favorite event to host and why?
Our chapter’s favorite event has been our trip to Mount Vernon. This trip allowed our members a chance to get off campus and experience the rich history of our country’s founding. This was an amazing bonding experience and was right nearby.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a chapter on their campus?
We would advise new chapters to rely on your connections, friends and support system. It is sometimes difficult to start a NeW chapter in terms of the administrative difficulties as well as creating a brand-new community for an often silenced group of people. It is important to trust your support system and not be afraid to ask questions or ask for help.
