Chapter Leader Spotlight: Julia Donnelly, NeW at CUA

Hear from Julia Donnelly, a chapter leader at the Catholic University of America.

How did you first hear about NeW?

One of my friends in a Politics class approached me and another woman and asked us if we would be interested in starting this club at CUA.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and why you became involved in NeW?

I became involved at CUA because I fully support the message that NeW embodies and I want to be an advocate for that message on the CUA campus.

What appeals to you about NeW?

What appeals to me most is the community of the club.  Although our club is new and still expanding, this club is a great place to come together with like-minded women and discuss women’s rights, policy issues, and current events within the political realm.

What made you want to start a NeW chapter?

The reason I wanted to start a NeW chapter was because I felt like there was no organization like this one on campus.  The goal of NeW is for conservative women to come together and discuss our thoughts and opinions in a collegiate environment.  This club invites conservative women to come together and take part in an intellectual discussion that sheds light on the image of conservative women and what they believe in, because often this image is portrayed in a negative way.

Why is having a NeW chapter on campus so important to you?

It is important to me because NeW strengthens the beliefs of conservative women.  It reaffirms for other conservative women that they are not the only person with a certain view.  This organization encourages women to hold firm their beliefs.

How do you benefit from being a part of NeW? What is the best part of being involved with NeW?

The main benefit is the immense opportunities for networking.  Being in Washington D.C. gives our club a boost and affords us the opportunity to attend numerous NeW events and meet numerous incredible conservative women.

What makes you the most excited about being a part of NeW?

What makes me the most excited is that this organization was only founded in 2004.  Therefore, it is exciting to spread the message NeW embodies and encourage other conservative women to join.  I am excited to attend events and meet inspiring women, as well as meet fellow collegiate conservative women.
