As part of our Chapter Leader Spotlight, we caught up with Brianna Howard, President of the NeW chapter at the Catholic University of America. Check out her responses below!
How did you first hear about NeW?
I first found out about NeW from the fabulous women of the AU Chapter. I was so inspired by their excitement and enthusiasm for the organization that I had to learn more about NeW!
Tell us a little bit about yourself and why you became involved in NeW?
I currently am the Student Body President at The Catholic University of America and have been involved in College Republicans since day 1 of being at CUA. As a student leader, I have seen the need of an organization like NeW on my campus and knew that it would be a great fit for many women who might not have found a group to be excited about.
What appeals to you about NeW?
NeW appeals to me because it’s a different approach to being politically active. Each person has a different style and the outlet that NeW provides for conservative women to talk about issues that matter most to them is really unique. I love that each chapter can really tailor their structure to what fits best for them.
What made you want to start a NeW chapter?
I wanted to start a NeW chapter because I wanted to build the foundation for an organization that I know will be a great outlet for many women on my campus, and even women who might not be students at CUA. Being in Washington, DC, we never know who our network might grow to include and I think that because of the way that NeW is multifaceted, there are so many opportunities for women both on campus and off.
Why is having a NeW chapter on campus so important to you?
Having a NeW chapter on campus is important to me because I know that some women aren’t interested in taking on the political intensity that comes with joining other organizations. Each student knows their own tastes best, and I believe that NeW gives them an option that is suited best for their interests.
How do you benefit from being a part of NeW? What is the best part of being involved with NeW?
We talk so much about networking in the professional world, and that’s because it’s such an important part of whatever we do! This much is absolutely true when it comes to NeW. I have met some amazing, empowered, conservative women and I definitely think that the opportunity to meet these awesome people is the best part of being involved in NeW!
What makes you the most excited about being a part of NeW?
What makes me most excited about being involved with NeW is seeing the potential that the organization has. It is only going to grow and as I graduate and move onto new things, I will be able to bring my experiences back to my NeW network and help it grow, just as my fellow chapter members will!
