WOMEN’S ORGANIZATION CONDEMNS “CANCEL CULTURE” ENVIRONMENT ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES
WASHINGTON, DC — When students head off to college this fall, they go in with optimism and an expectation that they will learn about new ideas and have the chance to debate and discuss topic with their peers and professors. What they don’t anticipate is that many will face an indoctrinating environment, one where they are told there is only one acceptable point of view. Universities are fostering a silencing culture.
The Network of enlightened Women, known as NeW, has seen a growing “cancel culture,” and conservative women are often the target.
At Dickinson College, our chapter women have been attacked on their Instagram posts.
At the University of Mississippi, a parody account was made of a conservative group that started attacking other conservative groups. It compared NeW to “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
NeW has had multiple leaders at schools including Boston University, Mercer University, and the University of Kansas share about being singled out in their sororities for their views.
These are high-achieving students who just want to get together to fight for the future of our country. Yet they are singled out because they dare to proudly state their conservative beliefs.
“Women can think for themselves. They do not need others to tell them what to believe or what policies to support. They deserve to be heard like everyone else and not silenced for presenting a different perspective. Our colleges and universities should be encouraging intellectual diversity, not silencing it. As conservatives, we must make sure young conservative women have an intellectual home, and that is where NeW comes in,” said Karin Lips, President and Founder of NeW.
NeW supports intellectual diversity at universities through campus-based chapters. As highlighted in a book published by NeW, She’s Conservative: Stories of Trials and Triumphs on America’s College Campuses, conservative women exist on campuses across the country, and they are speaking out. The women showcased in the book overcame stereotypes and bias to become stronger, wiser, and more courageous. 22 women from the following schools are featured in the book, American University, College of Charleston, Cornell University, Emmanuel College, Florida Gulf Coast University, Georgetown University, Harvard College, Liberty University, Presbyterian College, Princeton University, The Catholic University of America, The George Washington University, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, University of Florida, University of Virginia, Western Carolina University, and Western Michigan University. These women should be included in the conversation on campuses.
