Meet Nicole Huyer, Treasurer at NeW at the Catholic University of America.
What were some of your favorite events that you participated in with NeW?
This year’s Galentine’s event was a great social event where we were able to talk with young conservative women and enjoy each other’s company while decorating cookies, eating chocolate-covered strawberries, and drinking mocktails!
What are your plans after graduation?
I am planning to pursue the 4+1 Economics Master’s degree at Catholic University. I completed several graduate courses as an undergrad, so I will use my free time to intern or complete a fellowship each semester!
What advice would you give to a conservative woman starting college?
I was lucky enough to go to a more conservative university. To any conservative woman starting college, I would say to stay true to your values and to never be afraid to use your voice. There may be people that disagree with you, but you have just as much a right to voice your opinion as anyone else. Be strong, be confident, and be unapologetically YOU!
How has NeW impacted you and prepared you for your next steps?
NeW has greatly impacted me, especially in terms of leadership and professional skills. Working with our executive board to host events and the process of requesting funding are important skills that have developed my public speaking and organizational skills. NeW has prepared me for my next steps, namely internships and jobs, by building communication, collaboration, and team skills. The process in which our executive board hosts events will help me for projects I will work on in my career.
Why is NeW important to you?
NeW has given me the opportunity to become a leader on campus and make an impact for the conservative movement by hosting political and social events. Starting as a member and then a two-year Treasurer for NeW has also allowed me to meet so many wonderful women, some of which will be long lasting friends.
