Senior Spotlight: Maya Shanahan, Cornell University

Congratulations to our graduating seniors and thank you for your work with NeW! We are pleased to spotlight some of our outstanding chapter leaders and members.

Meet Maya Shanahan, Treasurer of NeW at Cornell University.

What were some of your favorite events that you participated in with NeW?
I loved getting to hear Ann Coulter speak during one of our events.

What are your plans after graduation?
I will be attending law school. I am currently in the process of deciding between offers, but will most likely be staying at Cornell and attending Cornell Law.

What advice would you give to a conservative woman starting college?
I would say don’t be afraid to voice your opinions and be honest about your beliefs; it can definitely be difficult to do so as a conservative college student, but seeking out a community of other conservatives and finding friends who accept your beliefs (even if they disagree) is important and worthwhile.

How has NeW impacted you and prepared you for your next steps?
Being involved with NeW definitely gave me confidence to be honest about my conservative beliefs and not to feel like I have to hide them.

Why is NeW important to you?
NeW provided me with a conservative community while also challenging me and providing opportunities to learn more about and get involved in conservatism.
