Congratulations to our graduating seniors and thank you for your work with NeW! We are pleased to spotlight some of our outstanding chapter leaders and members.
Meet Kaylea Focia, member of NeW at University of Mississippi.
What were some of your favorite events that you participated in with NeW?
I’ve participated in campaigns to get women speakers and opportunities around campus to help out local women’s shelters. I enjoyed each because they brought attention to women’s issues in the state of Mississippi in around campus, with possibilities of inspiring women around the city.
What are your plans after graduation?
My plan after graduation is to move to Birmingham, Alabama and work for the department of justice while pursuing my masters in chemistry.
What advice would you give to a conservative woman starting college?
Advice I would give a conservative women starting college is to remember your values and to speak those true in your schoolwork, what you say, and what you do because people will look upon these values and respect them. Although not everyone may agree with your values, you must hold yourself high and remember the pride in staying true to yourself.
How has NeW impacted you and prepared you for your next steps?
NeW has impacted me and prepared me for my next steps because it has showed me that there are others with the same values as me and that when women work together, we can get a lot accomplished.
Why is NeW important to you?
NeW is important to me because my grandmother introduced me to it and I would’ve never found it without her and I didn’t believe that there were other people with the same thoughts, values, and beliefs has me on this campus, but I found that in NeW it was more comfortable speaking my values.
