Internship Spotlight: Katherine Mickelson, NeW at Baylor University

NeW is proud to highlight the great internship opportunities NeW women are experiencing in the workplace. Meet Katherine Mickelson, events chair of NeW at Baylor University and an intern for the District Office of Congressman Dusty Johnson. Katherine shares more about her internship: 

Where are you interning and what is your job title?  

I am an intern for Congressman Dusty Johnson’s District Office. 

Why did you apply for this internship? 

I wanted to gain a better understanding of the federal government and gain experience working in the political scene. 

What has been your favorite part of the internship so far? 

My favorite part has been getting to assist constituents and help them solve their federal agency problems. 

How does this internship help set you up for your career dreams?

It helped connect me to so many different career opportunities and professionals. 

How has your experience with NeW prepared you for this role?  

NeW has prepared me with professional development training in etiquette, political knowledge, and how to network. 

Any advice for other women who are looking for an internship? 

Apply for a lot of opportunities; nothing is out of reach!
