Chapter Spotlight: NeW at the University of South Carolina

NeW caught up with the women from NeW at the University of South Carolina. Learn about the great work these women are doing on campus from their e-board members.

Why is NeW important to your chapter?
NeW is important to our chapter because it’s an outlet. I know I speak for both our executive board and a majority of our members when I say that it is really hard to find like-minded women on a college campus. In the words of Madison Kutruff, NeW is our conservative sorority, and it has brought so many beautiful friendships and conversations that may not have been there otherwise.

What kind of impact has your chapter had on campus?
On our campus, NeW has been able to bring something different than a lot of other organizations. The other conservative groups on campus are great, but there are certain conversations that are really different without men there. And the same goes for other women’s organizations, they’re amazing in their own, but having the conservative backing really makes NeW special.

What has been your chapter‘s favorite event to host and why?
Self Defense! Last fall we had the University of South Carolina’s Police Department come put on a women’s self defense workshop and it was awesome. We had women come who weren’t conservative or weren’t part of NeW and I know many of them were amazed at how kind we were despite having very different beliefs. In addition to learning how to kick butt, we also were able to show our community that conservative women are loving and  fun!

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a chapter on their campus?
DO IT! It is so much work, but the connections you make and the people you meet make it so worth it. I know for me starting NeW at the University of South Carolina was so draining at times, but to be able to host events and hear women say to me that THIS is what they were looking for on our campus is so encouraging. Do it not for you, but for the conservative movement and the lives you can change.
