When I look around my university’s campus, I see a lot of women. But what I don’t see are conservative women. My university, the University of Minnesota-Duluth, is a very liberal school in a very liberal community. Last year, a very good friend of mine, Ellie Mueller, came up to me and asked me if I wanted to start a Network of enlightened Women Chapter at our university. I agreed to help her start the chapter and so we began planning our meetings and the start of what we thought would be a great year. Unfortunately, it didn’t go as well as we had hoped. We were both disappointed and confused as to how we couldn’t get more women to join an amazing organization that helps empower women, especially conservative women. But I understand. I understand that at our age, many women are liberal and share liberal beliefs or are insecure about sharing what they believe in. I was one of those women. But what about these conservative women? Where are they? One of the hardest things for me as a conservative woman is finding other women my age who share the same beliefs and values as I do. I struggle to voice my opinion and what I believe in because I feel surrounded by people who will dislike me, judge me, or disrespect me for the conservative values I have. But, I have come to realize that I don’t care. I don’t care if there will be people who don’t like me, who want to judge me, who don’t want to respect me because of what I believe in. I am conservative. I am proud to be a young conservative woman and I am proud of the young conservative women who have the courage to voice their opinions and beliefs even when there is no one around to share them with. Be confident, be strong, and be the conservative woman you know you are—that’s what I tell myself every day. God bless conservatism and God bless America. #ShesConservative
