On August 9-11, NeW leaders from all over the country gathered in Atlanta, Georgia for the NeW Chapter Leader Retreat. It was an energizing weekend, providing inspiration and practical training for young conservative female leaders. There were representatives from a diverse group of academic institutions including Baylor University, The Catholic University of America, College of Charleston, Emmanuel College, Florida State University, Ole Miss, the University of Michigan, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the University of Virginia, and many more.
The 2019 attendees heard from an incredible line-up: Sarah Hawkins Warren, Associate Justice, Supreme Court of Georgia; Beatrice Torralba, Regional Representative, Office of United States Senator David Perdue; Kelsey Bolar, Senior News Producer, The Daily Signal; Katie Yoder, Content Manager for National Review Online; Hannah Cox, National Manager, Conservatives Concerned about the Death Penalty; and Susan Charnaux, Principal and Founder, Fairhill Ventures LLC.
Attendees participated in media training exercises, professional development workshops, and event planning for their chapters for the upcoming school year.
But the weekend was more than just diligent professional and chapter building sessions; we had some fun too. When the attendees arrived on Friday afternoon, they spent time getting to know one other while exploring Olympic Park and the surrounding area in downtown Atlanta, highlighted by riding Skyview Atlanta – a 200-foot Ferris Wheel offering amazing views of the city. That evening attendees dressed in their best ‘90s outfits, posed in the photo booth, and enjoyed chapter karaoke singing popular songs from the era.
On Saturday evening, the women gathered for a celebratory banquet where individual women and specific chapters were honored with the annual chapter awards, highlighting their achievements on campus from the previous school year.
The women left Atlanta excited for the year to come!
