Service Spotlights – Following the Call to Serve

This year, NeW’s 10th annual Gentlemen Showcase is celebrating men across the country that have committed themselves to serving others. While there have been more than 100 exceptional men nominated, we wanted to spotlight a few nominees that have shown they are willing to go beyond the call of service in their own communities, and have served others outside of their own neighborhoods and school.

One young man who committed himself to service is Ethan Rupe. Ethan is a gentleman who went above and beyond his call to serve by joining the United States Air Force. His nominator shared that since being in the service, Ethan has taken time to make sure all of his brothers and sisters in arms are always doing well and working their hardest. He has also taken the time every Sunday to take a fellow Wingman to church on Sunday’s since she had no one to go with. Ethan’s service to his country and to all those around him show his devotion to being a true gentleman.

Another nominated gentleman is Christian Eller. Nominated by his sister, Meliah Eller, from Brigham Young University, Meliah shares about Christian’s story of moving to Ukraine at age 18 to teach English. She shares that he helped farm potatoes with the families there for nothing in return. In the nomination, Meliah writes, “[Christian] and his friends would eat less than an hour a day just to ensure that they weren’t wasting time that they could use to help the Ukrainian people.” When Christian returned home, he was a “stronger gentleman than ever”, making sure that everyone he cared about was taken care of before himself.

One more nominated gentleman who has shown his devotion to service, respect, and kindness is Nick Carey. Nick is studying Christian Ministry at Indiana Wesleyan University. After school, he is hoping to travel outside of the country for mission work. His nominator shared, “His goal is to completely help the people he encounters.” His devotion to serving others and being a strong example of kindness and respect make him an example of an exceptional gentleman.
