Senior Spotlight: Mary Kathryn Stewart, NeW at Mercer University

Congratulations to our graduating seniors and thank you for your work with NeW! We are pleased to spotlight some of our outstanding chapter leaders and members.

Meet Mary Kathryn Stewart, member of NeW at Mercer University.

What were some of your favorite events that you participated in with NeW?
I enjoyed our chapter’s “Coffee & Conversation” event as well as “Lead Like a Lady” with Susan Charnaux.

What are your plans after graduation?
Work and grad school.

What advice would you give to a conservative woman starting college?
It has been truly important for me to constantly strive for the truth behind any subject — and yes, I mean THE truth, not my truth. It is incredibly easy to get sucked into the narrative. When someone asks for your opinion, give it. If no one asks, give it. Speak up. If something is incorrect, refute it. Don’t settle into anything other than yourself. Your values and beliefs will be far more important to you in the future than any person is now.

How has NeW impacted you and prepared you for your next steps?
I have learned that I’m not alone. It’s easy to feel that way when you’re a part of the “silent majority.” And I’ve been given great advice from Susan Charnaux: “You don’t have to have everything figured out right now. No one does, and it’s a lie when they say they do. Everything and everyone can change.”

Why is NeW important to you?
NeW is a way to show other women what it’s like to be confident and to stand up for something. It’s never pushed as something that everyone should or does agree with. It’s a true differentiator that sets you apart and teaches you how strong you can be.

The Network of enlightened Women (NeW) provides premier opportunities for young conservative women like Mary Kathryn. Learn how to bring a Chapter of NeW to your campus today!
