Senior Spotlight: Leia Ficks, NeW at George Washington University

Congratulations to our graduating seniors and thank you for your work with NeW! We are pleased to spotlight some of our outstanding chapter leaders and members.

Meet Leia Ficks, president of NeW at The George Washington University.

What were some of your favorite events that you participated in with NeW?
NeW’s 20-year anniversary and “Handshakes on the Hill” networking hour were my favorites. I loved the anniversary event because we heard from Congresswoman Kat Cammack. The networking event was a great opportunity to meet other young women who graduated or are currently in school in the DC area.

What are your plans after graduation?
I will be attending GW Law School.

What advice would you give to a conservative woman starting college?
Do not waver from your beliefs. It is hard to be a conservative woman, especially at a liberal university, but you must stay strong in what you believe in. Be unapologetically yourself and treat others with respect and empathy. Hopefully overtime, liberal students will treat you with that same respect.

How has NeW impacted you and prepared you for your next steps?
NeW has provided me with immeasurable confidence — in myself and my conservative beliefs. More importantly, it has provided me with a network of conservative women who are empowered leaders within their communities and incredibly smart!

Why is NeW important to you?
NeW has given me hope in the female conservative movement. The welcoming and close-knit community it creates, within universities and among them, is incredible. It has been a cornerstone of my college experience.

The Network of enlightened Women (NeW) provides premier opportunities for young conservative women like Leia. Learn how to bring a Chapter of NeW to your campus today!
