Senior Spotlight: Caroline Barroso, NeW at Xavier University

Congratulations to our graduating seniors and thank you for your work with NeW! We are pleased to spotlight some of our outstanding chapter leaders and members.

Meet Caroline Barroso, co-president of NeW at Xavier University.

What were some of your favorite events that you participated in with NeW?
In the last year, two events that I really enjoyed were the speaker event we hosted, during which Ohio State Representative Bernadine Kennedy Kent spoke about finding your voice as a woman in politics. I enjoyed this event because Kent spoke about the struggles that we as women face in politics and gave us strategies to combat this and to avoid being overlooked. I also participated in our kickoff event this year in which I gave my own testimony of my involvement in NeW and all it has provided for me.

What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation I plan to attend graduate school for industrial organizational psychology. I am hoping to obtain a job in human resources or somewhere within the political scope.

What advice would you give to a conservative woman starting college?
I would tell any conservative woman starting college to stay true to yourself and your values. Do not be afraid to speak up for what you believe in because more often than not, there is someone who agrees with you and will find comfort in you speaking up for yourself and others. Find groups like NeW or start your own chapter on your campus to educate women who may not know where they stand on the political spectrum. Also, engage in conversations with people whom you might not agree with because it will educate you further and help you understand the other side or even find a common ground.

How has NeW impacted you and prepared you for your next steps?
NeW has helped me to find my passion and has driven me to be a hardworking woman. NeW has provided me with countless connections professionally and has also helped me create friendships from all over the country. NeW has helped me to develop skills to have an educated conversation with other conservatives and with individuals from the other side. NeW has been so many talking points for me in interviews as well. Being on the board of NeW for two years now has helped me develop my leadership skills and helped me to time manage in order to take on such responsibility.

Why is NeW important to you?
NeW is important to me because I have always had a passion for politics, but NeW provided me a space to voice my beliefs with like-minded women who wanted to change the narrative on college campuses. NeW has provided me with so many friendships that will last a lifetime. If there’s one thing that I am so proud of throughout my college experience, it would be joining NeW and participating in all of the various opportunities that it has provided me with. NeW is a great space for young women to feel empowered and realize all the potential that they are capable of.

The Network of enlightened Women (NeW) provides premier opportunities for young conservative women like Caroline. Learn how to bring a Chapter of NeW to your campus today!
