Leader Spotlight: Ann Jordyn Ewing-Anderson, NeW at the University of Mississippi

Meet Ann Jordyn Ewing-Anderson, Treasurer of NeW at the University of Mississippi.

How did you first hear about NeW?
I first heard about NeW when I was contacted by our president, Madison Vice. I was very excited to be a part of a conservative women’s group on campus because I was so nervous that I wouldn’t find other people with the same beliefs.

Why is having a NeW chapter on campus so important to you?
Having a chapter on campus is very important to me because it allows me to make friends who have the same values and beliefs I have, while reaching out to other women to make sure that they are educated and know the truth about public policy and current events.

What has been your favorite memory or event with NeW?
My favorite memory from our chapter has to be when I had a dinner with our chapter president, it was very relaxed and fun! She basically laid out what NeW was and what we would be doing as a chapter here at the University of Mississippi. Later, we took a picture and put it on Instagram, and I finally felt like I had somewhere to go back to. I had a group of awesome women whom I knew I could count on.

Why is NeW important?
I think NeW is important because it allows conservative women like myself to come together and find each other in these troubling times, especially on college campuses. It is hard to make friends when you are new to a community, but even harder when you are seeking people who hold the same beliefs as you do.

What advice would you give other conservative women on campus?
I would give two pieces of advice to conservative women on campus. The first piece of advice: Don’t be afraid to stand up or speak out for what you believe in, even if you don’t think anyone will agree with you. You would be surprised at how many people actually do who won’t speak up. The second piece of advice would be to reach out to groups such as NeW so that you don’t feel alone and you have a support system by your side.
