Celebrating NeW’s Impact: Krista Mitchell, American University

NeW is proud to celebrate 17 years of educating, equipping and empowering conservative women. To celebrate, we are highlighting NeW members across the country and how NeW has impacted their lives. Krista Mitchell graduated from American University in 2018 where she first became involved and active in her local NeW chapter.

How did you first hear about NeW?
I first heard about NeW when I was walking through the student involvement fair my freshman year of college. A couple of women were sitting next to the College Republicans table, and they waved me over and told me about NeW. I attended their first event and have since been a committed member.

How has NeW had an impact on your college experience?
NeW had a tremendous impact on my college experience. It brought together a group of women at American University who cared about free speech and intellectual diversity on campus and gave me a place to learn and grow as a leader. I also did my second internship at NeW’s headquarters, where I learned about communications, marketing, and student programming. These skills helped me tremendously in college, and they have benefitted me as I moved into the professional sphere.

Why is NeW important?
This organization connects women from across the country to others with whom they can engage intellectually and professionally. It has challenged me to improve myself through professional development and bring my very best to every situation. It also connected me to lifelong friends and mentors. I am very thankful for my experiences with NeW at American University and in the Professional Network, and I encourage all women who believe in a free society to become a part of NeW.
