Meet Morgan England, member of NeW at Cornell University.
What were some of your favorite events that you participated in with NeW?
I enjoyed the NeW call with Allie Beth Stuckey. She is so inspirational, and I love her podcast. It was so cool to see her engaging with us students! I also had fun participating in our call with Inez Stepman. I hadn’t heard of Inez before, but hearing such a powerful and strong woman speak to the issues of socialism was incredibly enlightening and uplifting to know I am not alone.
What are your plans after graduation?
I will be working at SC Johnson on their Target desk in Minneapolis working in sales.
What advice would you give to a conservative woman starting college?
My advice is to stay strong. You will constantly have people telling you that your opinion is not valid, that it makes you a lesser person for thinking that way, etc. It’s not easy, but find people who support and respect you for your character. Your feelings and opinions are so valid despite what others tell you!
How has NeW impacted you and prepared you for your next steps?
NeW has impacted me immensely by showing me that I am not alone. Being a conservative woman on a college campus can feel isolating and scary. I’ve had ‘friends’ make fun of me, stop talking to me, or mock me for being conservative. At every step, NeW was there to remind me that there are other supportive women who align with my morals and beliefs. This understanding will undoubtedly help me immensely throughout my career and personal life.
Why is NeW important to you?
NeW is important to me in the sense that this group of women was a constant rock for me throughout my time at Cornell. The political environment on campus is polarizing and toxic. It’s so easy to start feeling like your opinions aren’t valued or respected. The women of NeW at Cornell University were there at each turn to lift me up and remind me that I am not alone.
