Chapter Leader Spotlight: Katie Soll, NeW at College of Charleston

Hear from Katie Soll, a chapter leader at the College of Charleston.

How did you first hear about NeW?

Our president Charlotte was asking for signatures to start a NeW chapter at our college, and I knew right away that it was something I wanted to be involved in!

Tell us a little bit about yourself and why you became involved in NeW?

I am a junior at the College of Charleston where I study history and anthropology. Last year, I got involved in YAL and TPUSA to surround myself with students with the same political ideology as me and I felt it was also important to get involved with NeW because it opens up the political conversation to conservative women.

What appeals to you about NeW?

Not only is NeW a community of strong, conservative women, but it also emphasizes the importance of having an educated opinion on today’s issues.

Why is having a NeW chapter on campus so important to you?

Going to a school that is dominated by the Left, I felt it was important to get involved in the movement that promotes the other side of the argument while also empowering women.

How do you benefit from being a part of NeW? What is the best part of being involved with NeW?

Being a part of NeW has allowed me to work with a group of smart women who have showed me how to stand up for my beliefs on a campus where most people disagree with me. The best part of being involved with NeW is that I am a part of a group that empowers women and encourages them to speak out on issues without compromising my own moral values.

What makes you the most excited about being a part of NeW?

I am most excited about making a difference on the College of Charleston campus and also creating an environment where people can have a civil discussion about politics.
