CONSERVATIVE WOMEN
Through out history, there have been a few women who especially stand out. They have helped shape political views, all the while strengthening their roles as wives, mothers, women of faith and admired professionals. Many of these women have been said to be politically conservative. I myself am proud to be considered Conservative. Some of my role models are Sarah Palin, Margaret Thatcher, Condoleezza Rice and Michelle Easton. Each one is a strong woman who succeeded in the political arena fighting for her beliefs, while maintaining her integrity as a role model for other conservative women.
Conservatism dates back to the principles of the Declaration of Independence of 1776. It states among other things that “All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights”. Todays conservative principles are based on tradition, divine revelation or “natural law” as described by Russell Kirk in his works of the Six “Canons” of Conservatism. Today, conservative women fight for issues that include Abortion, Education, Embryonic Stem Cell Research, Gun Control and Immigration. These are the issues that I am also passionate about.
Of all the conservative women in history, a few stand out to me that I admire for their beliefs. One of my favorite is Michelle Easton. She helped pave the way for other women to follow in their conservative beliefs. She created the Claire Both Luce Policy Institute. To help build a strong foundation, Easton recruited top female conservative leaders to be on the board. They are committed to constitutional principles of individual freedom, economic liberty, limited government, personal responsibility and traditional values. Their focus is to be mentors and build up and support conservative leaders.
A few other of my role models include Sarah Palin, Condoleezza Rice and from the United Kingdom, Margaret Thatcher. Sarah Palin was the former Governor of Alaska. She was also a nominee in the 2008 Presidential election as Vice President. She is a hugely admired professional, wife, mother and women of faith. She continues to put her family and faith first while arguing for whats best for this country. I also admire Condoleezza Rice. Born and raised in Alabama when the South was socially segregated , Rice proudly stood behind her heritage. She became the 66th Secretary of State for the United States. In addition to her various other titles she has been a diplomat, professor, and Provost of Stanford University. I strongly admire her ethics and morals and am at awe of everything she has accomplished. Lastly, another role model I have is Margaret Thatcher. Although not from the United States, she is also a women with strong convictions, morals and integrity. Thatcher fought her way to become the first female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Also of importance, she worked alongside President Reagan to defeat communism and promote the values of Freedom and limited government.
Conservative women fight very strongly for what they believe. Following are a few issues that I believe drive me to be the conservative woman that I am. On any given day, the topic of Abortion always seems to be in the news. Life begins at conception. It is considered murder of an unborn child. Abortion should not be taxpayer funded, and tax dollars should not be used for the government to provide abortions. Being a college woman myself, I am also a proponent for Education. I agree with creating a school voucher system. This helps create completion between schools and otherwise improve performance at the education level. If vouchers are given to all parents, they have the right to choose the best education for their children which is not based on the ability to pay. Such as is the issues with private schools. This gives every child the right to obtain the best that education has to offer.
Another less know issue that motivates me is that of Embryonic Stem Cell Research. Since human life begins at conception, embryonic stem cells should not be used in research because the only way to obtain these cells calls for the destruction of an embryo, thus killing a life. Adult and umbilical cord stem cells have already been proven successful for treating various diseases. It is morally and ethically wrong to fund embryonic stem cell research.
Not a day goes by that you don’t hear or read about Gun Control. As a conservative I believe in the second amendment that gives citizens the right to keep and bear arms. I do believe and support the idea that individuals have the right to defend themselves. More education and less laws would also protect our citizens. Gun control does not prevent criminals from obtaining guns. They are going to find away. I would bet that criminals would think twice about a possible crime if they knew their future target had a gun and was allowed to use it. Maybe the idea that they could die might deter some of the criminals.
Lastly, I am a supporter of legal immigration only. We should show no amnesty for those who enter the United States illegally. First the borders should be secured, then focus needs to be aimed at enforcing current immigration laws. So many people thru history have entered this country thru Ellis Island. They did so legally. Either follow the rules or get out. Illegal immigrates should not be afforded the same privileges as those who follow the rules.
I am proud to be a Conservative woman in todays society. We talk about things like family, liberty, hard work and American pride. Women like Michelle Easton, Sarah Palin, Condoleezza Rice and Margaret Thatcher are great role models for women who are true conservationists. They believe strongly in issues like Abortion, Embryonic Stem Cell Research, Gun Control and Immigration. I too an a supporter of these issues. I am a Conservative Woman.
