This weekend I went to see the movie The Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian with my family. I cried. But that is beside the point. I would like to call attention to the company, Walden Media, who produced the movie. They have also put out recent movies such as Bridge to Terabithia, Holes, Charlotte’s Web and Journey to the Center of the Earth. They have enlisted actors such as Liam Nesson, Julia Roberts, Brendan Frasier and Dustin Hoffman.
I don’t know a whole lot about the company, but I really want to find out more. Apparently, it was founded in 2001 after the Columbine shootings when people were blaming the violence in movies. I think in general there has been a demand for more wholesome movies recently, a demand the F.C.C. has not been able to meet simply by trying to regulate entertainment.
Walden Media has definitely teamed up with larger companies, but if the results in the box office are a sign of anything, it seems yet again private industry has been more efficient in meeting a need of society than government…..Thoughts? Any other companies like this I should look up?
