Thoughts from the NeW Gentlemen’s Showcase 2010 Winner

March 18, 2011 | Elizabeth

David DiVirgilio was the NeW Gentlemen’s Showcase 2010 winner after his sister, Melanie DiVirgilio, nominated him last March.

In a recent interview, NeW got to sit down with David and hear his thoughts and advice about the 2011 Gentlemen’s Showcase.

So, what did he think made a gentlemen?

A gentleman, to me, is someone with strength of character. They don’t just open doors and do chivalrous things on the outside. They care about people and treating them well in addition to the exterior acts.

Do gentlemen exist anymore? Or are they just hiding?

There are absolutely gentleman out there. As far as if some may be hiding, I think the proper word would be developing. A lot happens in four years of college. A freshman has a lot of growing up to do. I know I’ve changed a lot and I know many guys around me that are turning into very respectable men. So ladies, keep your eyes open..

What advice would you give to guys out there…and to gentleman participating in the showcase this year?

As far as guys out there, take great care to treat ladies and everyone around you well.

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”

As far as guys in the showcase, enjoy it.After the initial shock of hearing my sister nominated me, I learned to have fun with the process. The voting went to down to the very last minute. It was definitely fun to keep up with.

Any outgoing words at the 2010 Gentleman’s Showcase winner?

Thanks to NeW for putting on the showcase. Because of it, I landed my very own title-grabbing a girlfriend.. haha..

The whole process of the NeW Gentlemen’s Showcase really humbled me as those around me really rallied to my support and I think that was the coolest part of being named the NeW Gentleman of the Year.

In a recent report, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development noted that, “One of the areas of greatest untapped potential in the Australian labour force is inactive and/or part time working women, especially those with children.” That makes sense.
