The Advancement of Sex Ed: Starting Younger Than Ever

By Victoria McCaffrey, student at Hillsdale College and guest blogger for NeW

As if contemporary music, television, and pop culture in general were not poisonous enough, there has been a movement in Chicago public schools to implement sex education for kindergartners. Yes, that is correct. Starting with children under the age of six, this new program intends to indoctrinate kindergartners with what was described at a Planned Parenthood conference as “medically accurate, age-appropriate, and responsible sex education.” Like Planned Parenthood has any say in age-appropriate education. Known for its grotesque “educational” skits, YouTube propaganda entitled “Hooking Kids on Sex,” and free sex kits, Planned Parenthood clearly has more on its agenda than simply providing scientific information to children.

Obama, however, justified premature sex education, citing the fact that sexual activity can occur among those who are least-prepared:

“We also know that when the statistics tell us that nearly half of 15 to 19 year olds are engaging in sexual activity, that for us to leave them in ignorance is potentially consigning them to illness, pregnancy, poverty, and in some cases, death,” he said.

While it might be true that there is an epidemic of sexual activity among young adults, does the solution rest in allowing children to think about sex at a younger age than ever? It seems that promoting safe sexual activity may not lie within sex education itself, but rather will stem from a lower dosage of sexually-charged propaganda both in the media and school environment. Exposing children’s impressionable minds to sexually geared classroom topics will not prevent or protect youth in today’s culture as they are continually bombarded from every direction with lyrics, shows, and living standards that have no intention of promoting “safe sex,” or any type of healthy sexual lifestyle, for that matter. At least kindergartners have previously been guaranteed a temporary asylum from our culture’s sexual pandemic. Now it appears they too will be subjected to the same noxious onslaught as all other Planned Parenthood audiences, although it will be under the pretext of a formal education.
