Senior Spotlight: Hailey Medder

May 3, 2017 | Stephanie Farmer

Congratulations to our graduating seniors and thank you for your work with NeW! We are pleased to spotlight some of our outstanding chapter leaders and members. We will miss working with them on campus, but look forward to them joining our NeW Alumnae Network.

Today’s Spotlight is on Hailey Medder, NeW member at Western Carolina University. Hailey will be receiving a Bachelors of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology with a minor in Chemistry.

What are your plans after graduation?

My plan after graduation is to accept an internship working with LabCorp and continuing onto University of Colorado at Boulder to obtain my masters in Biochemistry.

How did NeW shape your college experience?

NeW shaped my entire college life because the organization provided a much needed “safe place” that was truly meant to include my political and personal views, without enabling judgments.

What is your favorite part of NeW? Your favorite memory?

My favorite part of NeW is getting to meet many members of the organization regardless of age, career, major, etc. NeW has provided so many amazing memories for me that choosing just one is difficult! My favorite memory would have to be NeW National Conference 2016, at a group dinner where everyone got to meet all of the NeW girls in a non-stress environment

Why do you think others should be involved with NeW?

Every single woman who feels as though she does not fit into “cliques” or be “mainstream” or “normal” because of her personal or political view should invest time into this organization because of the openness and inclusiveness it provides.

What is one piece of advice you would pass on to NeW ladies following you?

The one thing I will advise other NeW girls following me is to stand up. When I say stand up, I am referring to accepting every positive opportunity that presents itself, stand up for what you believe in and what you want. Most importantly, stand up to your fears because you have a global support system of strong women standing right next to you cheering you on every step of the way.
