President Obama Signs Lilly Ledbetter Act

President Obama just signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.  Supporters claim this legislation will ensure that women are paid as much as men for the same work.   This legislation, however, was not passed to prohibit sex-based pay discrimination because that was already prohibited.  The Equal Pay Act of 1963 outlaws sex-based pay discrimination.  This legislation changes the procedural rules on filing a lawsuit, making it much easier to file one.  Powerline has a solid analysis of this legislation that explains what it is really doing, Legislating the Lilly Ledbetter Lie.  (Nice alliteration.)
