NeW Wolfpack Woman

September 18, 2010 | NeW Staff

Hi everyone, I’m Taylor McLamb. I am a sophomore at NC State University and a proud NeW lady! I’m originally from Fayetteville, NC where I was born and raised. My major is Political Science (Yes, I am all about politics!). Some of my hobbies and interests include golf, piano, NC State athletics, shopping, and of course spending time with my family and friends. Here on State’s campus, I am involved in Student Government and College Republicans.

I first heard about the Network of enlightened Women through my friends in College Republicans, and as soon as I heard about it I was completely drawn in to every aspect of the club. Immediately I knew that I wanted to get involved, but little did I know I would be starting a chapter here at my university. Being a freshman, I was intimidated by the system of getting an organization started and the steps I needed to go through. With the help of past NeW leaders, I was able to gain the confidence I needed to make NeW a recognized organization at NC State in the Spring of 2010. Having NeW chapters nearby assisted me in getting acquainted with how the meetings went. We were able to attend tri-campus events at Meredith College and UNC Chapel Hill to hear excellent guest speakers such as Mary Katharine Ham and Phyllis Schlafly! This summer, I was privileged to attend the National NeW Conference in Washington, D.C. It was an eye-opening experience to hear from author, Christina Hoff Sommers, and connect with other NeW leaders across the country.

This year, as our chapter continues to grow, I’m hoping to host our first guest speaker. It is my greatest wish that NeW becomes a great way for conservative girls to network on State’s campus. In future blogs, I plan to write about current events from my perspective. I also expect to talk about culture on campus and feminism. I’m really looking forward to sharing my input on these issues throughout the year!

In a recent report, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development noted that, “One of the areas of greatest untapped potential in the Australian labour force is inactive and/or part time working women, especially those with children.” That makes sense.
