NeW at ASU Still Turning Heads with Gentleman’s Showcase

September 8, 2009 | NeW Staff

The NeW Chapter at Arizona State set the tone for a new way to challenge feminism and The Vagina Monologues in its first annual Gentleman’s Showcase last year. Instead of sitting back to let feminists dominate the dialogue and the hookup culture continue to pervade their campus, they took action and praised young men for being what they should be praised for being: gentlemen. They accepted nominations for the most chivalrous young men across their campus and announced the winner at an event last spring. The night even included an appearance by NeW’s founder Karin Agness to speak on the problems with the hookup culture today.

Well, they are still turning heads. Yesterday, a contributor to Claremont McKenna College’s Forum blog addressed the problems with dating or lack there of at Claremont. The solution he suggested? A Gentleman’s Showcase like the one held by NeW women at ASU. Others are taking notice of what NeW women at ASU are doing to change the trend of the campus hook-up culture. Well done, ladies!
