Gentlemen’s Showcase 2012 Nominee: Chris Di Re

March 23, 2012 | Sarah

The NeW Gentlemen’s Showcase has had some amazing nominations so far. Here on the NeW blog we will be highlighting each gentlemen to get to know them a little better and see why they should be the NeW Gentleman of the Year.

Today’s Gentleman is Chris Di Re, nominated by the University of Washington.

Chris Di Re

How do you define a gentleman?

I define a gentleman as someone who treats everyone, especially women, with the utmost amount of respect without pushing someone into doing something they do not want to do.

Do gentlemen still exist? Why or not?

Of course they do! I consider myself one! But in all seriousness, they must still exist because there are plenty of women out there still willing to commit their lives to a lucky man.

What is the best piece of gentlemanly advice you have received?

“Do onto others as you would have them do onto you.” I try to live my life by this quote.

Who are your role models for gentlemanly behavior in your daily life or in pop culture?

My top role model has to be my father who taught me that women, no matter what, deserve respect. Apart from that, my childhood hero, Superman. His ability to put others before him as well as his uncanny ability to ensure the woman he loves is cared for makes him someone I try to emulate (the super powers would be neat to have too!).

What is something you have done or said that exemplifies a gentleman?

I always try to put others first. Whether it means opening a door for anyone or sacrificing my free time to help others, I try to make sure those around me are provided for before myself. In grade school I was awarded humanitarian awards on more than one occasion for following this belief.
