Breaking NeWs: Men Need Smart Women to Stay Alive

November 24, 2009 | NeW Staff

Just in case marrying a smart woman wasn’t enticing enough, a man’s life may very well depend on getting hitched to a sassy and intelligent woman!

ABS/CBN News posted an article detailing a recent study released by Swedish scientists:

“Researchers from the Swedish Institute for Social Research in Stockholm found that a woman’s education was a stronger factor in her husband’s risk of dying over the next decade or so than the man’s own level of education.”

The report’s findings show that a man who marries a woman without a high school education is 1.25 times more likely to die than if he marries a college graduate.  And feminists say that a stay-at-home mom with a degree is a waste!  We’re saving lives!

The researchers, Jenny Torssander and Robert Erikson, provided a possible explanation for the findings:

“Women traditionally take more responsibility for the home than men do, and, as a consequence, women’s education might be more important for the family’s lifestyle — for example, in terms of food habits — than men’s education.”

While the real results may be something more along the lines of correlation rather than causation, we can relish in this entertaining success for smart women.
