Did we mention our prizes? First Place will receive a $1,000 scholarship and the opportunity to have her work published by Red Alert Politics. Second Place will receive a $500 scholarship.

Prompt:

During the 2014 college commencement season, two distinguished women were slated as commencement speakers, but later withdrew after protests from leftist student groups.  Condoleezza Rice, former Secretary of State under President George W. Bush, and IMP Chief Christine Lagarde withdrew their appearances at Rutgers University and Smith College, respectively. In 1,000 words or less, reflect on:

1. How this relates to fostering free thought and diversity of opinion on college campuses

2. Whether these events demonstrate a common occurrence on college campuses of disqualifying individuals with a “conservative” view on one issue from dialogue on all issues.
