Senior Spotlight: Suzy Dean

Congratulations to our graduating seniors and thank you for your work with NeW! We are pleased to spotlight some of our outstanding chapter leaders and members. We will miss working with them on campus, but look forward to them joining our NeW Alumnae Network. Today’s Spotlight is on Suzy Dean, NeW leader at Santa Fe College. Suzy Dean Santa Fe

What is one thing you gained from NeW?

One thing I learned from NeW is that it's crucial to surround yourself with a group of women who share the same goals and values as you do. Especially during college, there's a lot of temptation to fall into the hookup culture and lose yourself. I've learned to not be ashamed of my morals and to stand by them through the strong network of women I have met through NeW.

What is your favorite part of NeW? Your favorite memory?

My favorite part of NeW was always having someone to turn to for advice or encouragement. Our chapter was really like a sisterhood in which we all could lean on one another and know that someone would be there to help us along our journey. My favorite memory was our Christmas Cookie party. It was cute seeing the boys try to use cookie cutters and helping them learn how to bake like their mothers.

What is one piece of advice you would pass on to NeW ladies following you?

I would tell them to take pride in themselves and to celebrate even the smallest of accomplishments. I would tell NeW ladies to work hard to expand the club and reach out to similar-minded women who may also be in need of a strong network of ladies.

Why do you think others should be involved with NeW?

I think others should be involved in NeW because it's so true that you are who you surround yourself with. It's imperative to fall into the "right" crowd and for many, that's the ladies of NeW. The women that I have met through this club keep me grounded and encourage me to do things I never thought I would be able to do like run for other leadership positions or jump at an internship opportunity. These women have made my college experience better than most and I hope that thousands of college women can learn about this organization and have the same amazing experience that I had.

Thanks Suzy! We wish you the best after graduation.
